Linslade Canal Festival returns this year for another unforgettable celebration of countryside charm, heritage crafts and stunning canal boats.
🛍 WHAT TO EXPECT
Visitors will be treated to captivating demonstrations from traditional artisans, including bee skep making, stained glass window crafting, trug and hurdle making and wood carving. These skilled craftspeople will showcase the beauty and technique behind rural trades that have stood the test of time. A birds of prey static display will offer an up-close look at majestic raptors, while forest school workshops and storytelling sessions promise hands-on discovery and imaginative adventures for all ages.

The festival’s main stage will feature live performances from Wayland Smithy, the Andy Smythe Band and the lively Brass Junkies. Roaming entertainers Andrew and Edmund (A & E) will bring spontaneous musical fun throughout the poplars area.

They each have a fascinating wealth of knowledge regarding all manner of strange goings-on in the local area. For instance every year a husband and wife raise money for a special school to have an outing and any money left over is used towards much-needed equipment. We believe that it is our responsibility to re-pay the community for all the support
we’ve enjoyed over 25 years. So we have always made it our responsibility
to help charities with a special offer. We don’t give money but help them to help
themselves by giving them a very special deal on the price of a pitch. We particularly like having the smaller charities with us. For instance every year a husband and wife raise money for a special school to have an outing and any money left over is used towards much-needed equipment. Linslade Canal Festival returns this year for another unforgettable celebration of countryside charm, heritage crafts and stunning canal boats.

Visitors will be treated to captivating demonstrations from traditional artisans, including bee skep making, stained glass window crafting, trug and hurdle making and wood carving. These skilled craftspeople will showcase the beauty and technique behind rural trades that have stood the test of time. A birds of prey static display will offer an up-close look at majestic raptors, while forest school workshops and storytelling sessions promise hands-on discovery and imaginative adventures for all ages.

With good reason, you may assist your child! If they are too young to go alone, scared etc you may assist them.

Most crops are grown in ridges or beds, like Strawberries for example, so it would not be possible to get into the middle of the block but you can pick along the edges. When it has been raining it can get very muddy and our soil is sticky and can clog wheels quite quickly.

Wander onto the village green and discover Moot Hall - a registered Ancient Monument. This delightful 15th century timber-framed building is unique, being the only known combined manor courthouse & market hall to have been built in Britain by a nunnery.
As well as Bunyan-related items, Moot Hall houses a collection of 17th century furniture and various small exhibitions, including beautiful Bedfordshire lace-making. (Which you can purchase here.) Moot Hall is run by a small team of volunteers, all of whom are knowledgeable about its history, so don't hesitate to ask them questions.

There is no admission fee for individuals and families. Instead, we invite you to leave a donation, at the end of your visit, for whatever amount you feel your visit was worth.

Follow that with a stroll around the ancient timber-framed buildings on Elstow's High Street and the Abbey church and ruins of the former Benedictine nunnery. Then round off your visit with a cuppa at the delightful Elstow Tea Garden or at Elstow Post Office's Cottage Tea Room or the Red Lion Pub (A Sizzling pub).
♿️ DISABLED ACCESS
There is one parking space at Moot Hall exclusively reserved for Blue Badge Holders.
Access to the upper floor of Moot Hall is via a flight of fairly steep stairs but there is a chair-lift. There are some raised beams in the downstairs floor which you will need to be able to step over and one bay may not be accessible to wider wheelchairs. Sorry, but Moot is, after all, an authentic medieval building!

There is a small car park adjacent to Moot Hall - only for people visiting the museum. - and this may be accessed from Church End.
