Originally a coaching inn owned by the prominent Gilpin family, it is believed to have been frequented by Daniel Defoe, author of Robinson Crusoe. Its history is as diverse as it is long—serving as a boarding school in the 1930s and even a Tommy Gun range during WWII. With such a layered past, it is no surprise that the energy here is intense.
