🌺 The Walled Garden Open Day 2026

🌺 From the first Wednesday in May to the last in September 2026, we open the doors of the Walled Garden, Luton and welcome visitors to our unique Capability Brown designed walled garden and its unique service buildings.
🌹 WHAT TO EXPECT
Entrance includes a fascinating tour of the walled garden and visitors are encouraged to break their visit with a picnic or a visit to the Woodyard Café. The garden is best enjoyed at a snail’s pace, entrance is for all day! Notice boards and displays are updated throughout the season allowing fascinating insight into the garden’s rich history.
♿️ ACCESSIBILITY
Every effort has been made to make the garden accessible to as many visitors as possible. With that in mind we have recently finished resurfacing the area around the sundial making it far easier for wheeled access. However, due to the age and rich history of the garden there are some areas that are not accessible by wheelchair. Please inform members of the Walled Garden Project at the entrance and every effort will be made to provide an alternative route, provide commentary on the area, or help with pushing if there are volunteers available. Disabled toilets are available within the conservatory.

Dogs on leads with well-behaved owners are most welcome at the Walled Garden.

Parking is in an immediately adjacent car park with clearing marked disabled parking bays. Pre-booking is not required. Please note the Walled Garden is not at the hotel entrance.

🎉 A historic 150th deserves an iconic celebration! The legendary Kaiser Chiefs will be headlining Luton's 150th celebration at Stockwood Park with special guests The Feeling and The Hoosiers on Saturday 12 September 2026 presented by Luton Rising!

A 3 hour course on a circular outdoor walk. We'll be learning how to identify wild edible (and poisonous) plants, about plant families, and munching 3 tapas tasters on the way.
Mostly flat walk but one small section of uphill path. Cafe and toilets 5 min walk. Free parking.

The much-loved Last Night of the Proms returns to Parson’s Close Recreation Ground, Leighton Buzzard is on Saturday 12 September 2026 from 7pm to 10.30pm.
🎉 EVENT DETAILS
Enjoy a spectacular evening of live music and Proms favourites, starting with local singer and soprano Lissie Allsopp performing her Best of British set.
Then enjoy the renowned brass sound of the Bedfordshire Band of the Royal British Legion before settling in for a live screening of the BBC’s Last Night of the Proms from the Royal Albert Hall just after 9pm.

Once again Northampton Transport Heritage (NTH) will be back for their 5th year running classic buses on old town routes as part of the National Heritage Open Days 2026 celebrations.

▪️𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆: FREE bus rides with optional purchase of a bus brochure which costs £3.
🚍 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗧: There will be a variety of classic and heritage vehicles operating FREE bus rides out to the local villages and back to the town centre. You can go on as many bus rides as you wish and even get off, have a walk round and catch the next bus back into town.
There will also be a static display in Market Square that you can look round and enjoy plus take photos.

We will do our best to accommodate everyone, but please remember that most of the buses are from times past so we cannot carry wheelchairs, buggies or prams on the buses. Whilst our heritage buses may not be as accessible as modern vehicles, some are easier to board for those with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) than others, and with that in mind we are thrilled to announce that during Northampton Transport Heritage's visit to Daventry we will have dedicated journeys to those with SEND. These routes are fairly short, calm in terms of traffic and passenger numbers and onboard there will be an even more relaxed atmosphere than usual. Attendees with SEND are of course welcome on every single bus journey of the day and should you need assistance to board or advice about route suitability, our volunteers and drivers are always on hand to help.

🚂 Summerfields’ Miniature Railways system, is located in the open countryside near Haynes. The railways (there are three track systems at the Summerfields’ site) are a popular visitor destination for children and parents alike.

Trains depart Haynes End between 10:30 and 15:45 (approx.), trains leaving Haynes End after 15:45 will not stop at Hammer Hill. We close at 16:00.

Nobody is certain of the exact date, but it is likely that a watermill has stood on the site of the current Stotfold Mill beside the River Ivel for over a thousand years and it is certainly one of the oldest recorded buildings in the town. The first written evidence is the mention of four mills in Stotfold in the Domesday book of 1086. One of those four was the currently-named Stotfold Mill.
