✨️ Ashridge House Illuminated returns for 2025, ready to light up Hertfordshire with over 20 sparkling light displays - including brand new installations - and a better than ever festive food village, offering visitors this year a truly elevated experience.

Magic illuminates every step along the 1.7km trail that weaves through the estate’s historic Grade II* listed gardens, where more than 20 dazzling installations will mesmerise each and every visitor. With more magical moments and festive photo opps than ever before, including never-before-seen displays, Ashridge House Illuminations is not to be missed!

Set within the heart of our dazzling light trail, the 115ft Observation Wheel offers breathtaking views of Illuminated from above. Perfect for all ages to soak in the wonder of Christmas high above the crowd where magic illuminates every step. Simply add as an 'extra' at checkout!
🐶 DOG INFORMATION
▪️Wednesday & Thursday
Due to last year’s popularity of dog-friendly sessions, dogs will be once again welcome to join their humans on the trail every Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Pups and humans alike will have the opportunity to visit the extended festive Food Village, which promises to deliver a bigger and cosier experience than last year, with even more seasonal favourites, warming drinks, and sweet treats from local traders.

Ashridge House is conveniently located in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, off J20 on the M25, just a 30 min drive from Luton and 45 min drive from Heathrow. The nearest train station is Berkhamsted, which visitors can reach in only 35 mins from London Euston train station.

A Christmas Craft Fair in Brook End, the Community Centre and the Market Square, which will include the usual stalls from Potton groups and organisations, together with Henry Harris’ fairground rides and other entertainment on stage in the Market Square.

🎼 Danesborough Chorus returns to St Mary’s Church Woburn for a performance of Verdi’s dramatic choral masterpiece. Under the baton of musical director Ian Smith, they will be joined by the Alina Orchestra and a quartet of outstanding soloists, Katy Crompton, soprano, Siân Menna, mezzo soprano, Peter Hoare, tenor and James Oldfield, bass.

In 1873 the Italian poet, novelist and national hero Alessandro Manzoni died. Verdi had been a lifelong admirer and was deeply affected by his death. He decided to write a Requiem in Manzoni’s memory, and began by re-working the Libera me which he had composed five years earlier, part of an ill-fated collaboration initially conceived as a memorial to Gioachino Rossini. Though this piece is Verdi’s only large-scale work not intended for the stage, the Requiem is unashamedly theatrical in style, with passages of great tenderness and simplicity, contrasting with intensely dramatic sections. Writing at the time, the eminent conductor and pianist Hans von Bülow aptly described it as “Verdi’s latest opera, in church vestments”. The first performance of the Messa di Requiem took place on 22nd May 1874, the first anniversary of Manzoni’s death, in St. Mark’s Church, Milan. Special permission had to be obtained from the Archbishop to allow inclusion of female choristers, who were hidden behind a screen and clad in full-length black dresses and mourning veils. Although the performance was a success, the constraining circumstances and prohibition of applause produced a somewhat muted reaction. In contrast, the second performance three days later, at La Scala Opera House, was received by the capacity crowd with tumultuous enthusiasm, which has been the response of audiences ever since.
