For those who have never experienced it before, Stonyโs Christmas Lights display, launched with a magical family day of Christmas fun, is one of the best around! Every Christmas Stony Stratford glitters and shines with enchanting, twinkling lights, and excitement builds as the festive season is officially launched following the townโs Christmas Lights Switch-On Fun Day.

Each year we have a wealth of local musical talent performing on the stage in the Market Square from about 11.30am to 4.20pm. There is always a good mix of musical genres and this year is no exception. Watch out for the programme on our website.

Concrete Circus will be setting up on the Market Square to encourage children to have a go at juggling, unicycling, tight-rope walking and other circus skills. So why not bring the kids down to have a go.

Santa will be making a stop off in the Market Square in Stony Stratford as part of his busy schedule to delight the children.

Finally, as it gets dark, the lantern parade will meander down London Road to the High Street and into the Market Square in time for the countdown, then the lights will be turned on followed by some community carol singing to get the Christmas celebrations off to a fine start!

๐ผ Danesborough Chorus returns to St Maryโs Church Woburn for a performance of Verdiโs dramatic choral masterpiece. Under the baton of musical director Ian Smith, they will be joined by the Alina Orchestra and a quartet of outstanding soloists, Katy Crompton, soprano, Siรขn Menna, mezzo soprano, Peter Hoare, tenor and James Oldfield, bass.

In 1873 the Italian poet, novelist and national hero Alessandro Manzoni died. Verdi had been a lifelong admirer and was deeply affected by his death. He decided to write a Requiem in Manzoniโs memory, and began by re-working the Libera me which he had composed five years earlier, part of an ill-fated collaboration initially conceived as a memorial to Gioachino Rossini. Though this piece is Verdiโs only large-scale work not intended for the stage, the Requiem is unashamedly theatrical in style, with passages of great tenderness and simplicity, contrasting with intensely dramatic sections. Writing at the time, the eminent conductor and pianist Hans von Bรผlow aptly described it as โVerdiโs latest opera, in church vestmentsโ. The first performance of the Messa di Requiem took place on 22nd May 1874, the first anniversary of Manzoniโs death, in St. Markโs Church, Milan. Special permission had to be obtained from the Archbishop to allow inclusion of female choristers, who were hidden behind a screen and clad in full-length black dresses and mourning veils. Although the performance was a success, the constraining circumstances and prohibition of applause produced a somewhat muted reaction. In contrast, the second performance three days later, at La Scala Opera House, was received by the capacity crowd with tumultuous enthusiasm, which has been the response of audiences ever since.

Razzamataz and Infinite AllStars Cheerleading will perform alongside the young talent of the Leighton Buzzard Childrenโs Theatre. The headline act, Big in Brazil, will bring a lively party atmosphere, followed by a spectacular fireworks display at 7pm.

As part of the Hertford Castle Christmas Market, children can enjoy a magical โStorytime with Santaโ on Saturday 29th November 2025. Each session lasts around 50 minutes and offers an enchanting experience.
