ℹ️ ABOUT THE MUSEUM
The Museum is a memorial dedicated to the personnel of the 306th Bomb Group who operated from Thurleigh during WW2, as part of the Eighth Air Force 40th Combat Wing, 1st Air Division.
The Museum is an original building formally used by the 306th BG as a Small Arms Ammunition store.
We use it today to display artefacts to re-create the activities and atmosphere of the airfield and surrounding areas during the war years, as well as honour all those that lost their lives.

✈️ Twinwood Aviation Museum 2026 - Clapham

An aviation museum covering the second World War and World War 1 with displays on the RAF and 8th USAAF. Located in the restored Watch Office (Control Tower), the museum showcases a comprehensive collection of photographs documenting Glenn Millers time in the UK.
▪️THE UPPER FLOOR
The upper floor has been meticulously restored to its original wartime configuration, reflecting its history as a RAF night fighter training school. The museum also features an Aviation Museum, boasting an impressive array of artifacts recovered from wartime crash sites, as well as uniforms and memorabilia from World War 2.
We also have a special exhibition on World War 1.
▪️HOME FRONT MUSEUM
Our Home Front display transports visitors back to the 1940's with a recreated street scene and living room.
Additionally, the museum is home to a faithfully reproduced wartime fire station, complete with authentic firefighting equipment. The former armoury houses a unique collection of British and Axis uniforms, equipment, and vehicles including a restored 1/4 scale ME 109 fighter.

Mixed colourful borders with a fabulous collection bearded irises. Large award winning topiary subjects, a wildlife pond, kitchen garden and wildflower orchard with a rose walk. Cut flower area and countryside views. Fairy glade across meadows. Livestock may be present in adjoining fields so regret no dogs.
Harlington Hogspital hedgehog rescue will be present at the garden to offer lots of advice and information.
There will also be a plant sale at the garden.

🌳 THE NATURE RESERVE
The Nature Reserve is open all year round, except 9th-10th May and 10th-11th October 2026. The reserve is not wheelchair accessible.
📖 HISTORY
Nobody is certain of the exact date, but it is likely that a watermill has stood on the site of the current Stotfold Mill beside the River Ivel for over a thousand years and it is certainly one of the oldest recorded buildings in the town. The first written evidence is the mention of four mills in Stotfold in the Domesday book of 1086. One of those four was the currently-named Stotfold Mill.

Now run by a dedicated team of local volunteers, this popular Hitchin event attracts thousands of visitors who come to enjoy a fantastic day out and celebrate more than 50 years of Walsworth Festival history.
