🎣 The Mental Health Benefits of Fishing
Fishing is more than just a hobby. It helps men step away from their busy lives and relax. The slow, steady process of fishing—casting a line, waiting, and focusing on the water—can be very calming. It helps lower stress and gives men time to clear their minds.
Spending time outdoors is also important for mental health. Being in nature can improve mood, reduce anxiety, and boost overall well-being. Fishing provides a chance to breathe fresh air, enjoy quiet moments, and feel a sense of achievement.

🎼 Danesborough Chorus Haydn Nelson Mass at St Mary's Church in Woburn
Saturday 28 June 2025
Time: 19:30 - 21:30
🎼 Our 50th Anniversary Season concludes with our summer concert featuring Haydn’s Nelson Mass and Mozart’s Solemn Vespers and Divertimento in D major.
⛪️ EVENT DETAILS
The concert, on Saturday 28 June 7.30 pm in St Mary’s Parish Church, Woburn, will be conducted by Ian Smith and accompanied by the Alina Orchestra.
▪️Doors open: 7.00pm
▪️Starts: 7.30pm
📖 THE NELSON MASS
The Nelson Mass (Missa in Angustiis), arguably Haydn’s greatest single composition, is one of the six late masses that he had written for the Esterhazy family. It was composed in the summer of 1798 at the time when Napoleon and his French armies occupied much of Austria. Precisely how Haydn’s Nelson Mass became so-called will probably never be known. What is clear is that within a month of the Battle of the Nile (1 August 1798), when the British fleet commanded by Admiral Nelson defeated Napoleon‘s French fleet, Haydn had completed his latest Mass. Two years later Haydn performed this work before Nelson during his visit to the Esterházy palace at Eisenstadt. It gradually became referred to as the Nelson Mass. In the years following it became increasingly famous and to this day it is certainly one of his best-known and most popular choral works.
📖 ABOUT MOZART
Mozart wrote Solemn Vespers (Vesperae Solennes de Confessore) in 1780 for liturgical use in Salzburg Cathedral, his final choral work composed for the cathedral. Six movements of wonderful, religious music, culminating in, surely, one of Mozart’s finest tunes in the Laudate Dominum.
Mozart composed Divertimento for strings in D major during the winter of 1772 when he was sixteen. It is a delightful, youthful work, with exuberant energy, a lyrical slow movement, and even some Haydnesque humour.
🍓 BRING STRAWBERRIES & WINE
We hope you are able to join us for this special occasion, and, for a truly sparkling summer evening at Woburn, remember to bring strawberries and wine for the traditional extended interval on the lawns!

💖 CHARITY STALLS
We believe that it is our responsibility to re-pay the community for all the support
we’ve enjoyed over 25 years. So we have always made it our responsibility
to help charities with a special offer. We don’t give money but help them to help
themselves by giving them a very special deal on the price of a pitch. We particularly like having the smaller charities with us. For instance every year a husband and wife raise money for a special school to have an outing and any money left over is used towards much-needed equipment. Speak to one of our team, or phone us on 07852 70 70 74.
🗺 HOW TO FIND US
You can find us on the A507 just outside of Baldock. Coming from the A1 take the second exit from the ‘Tesco’ roundabout, follow this road to the next roundabout and then turn right. We are on the right just up the road.
📍For Sat navs use SG7 6RD which will bring you close enough to the field.
