🚶♂️FREE Great Linford Manor Walk - 2025 (No booking required)

🌳 Learn about the ancient origins of the park all the way up to the modern era. On your walk, discover hidden gems such as the Veteran Lime Tree, Doric Seat and Ha-ha, which survive from the 18th century English Landscape Garden design of the park and have been recently revealed, revived and restored as part of our National Lottery Heritage Fund project.
😍 FREE: This walk is free but donations to the Friends of Great Linford Manor Park are welcome. No booking is required, just turn up and enjoy!

On one stretch of the route there are a set of deep steps (leading up to the Railway Walk from the Cascade Pond). Please let the walk leader know if you would prefer to leave the pond via an accessible route. One or two park features are located on grass, which can be muddy when wet. A hearing loop is available on request from events@theparkstrust.com.
Accessible parking is located around the Parklands Pond at What3Words location pencil.parsnips.glosses.

🚶♂️The first of a series walks along the River Lea, starting at its source and following parks and meadow lands in the North of Luton.
ℹ️ ABOUT THE RIVER LEA
The River Lea is one of the longest, and most important tributaries of the Thames - taking a 42 mile journey from Bedfordshire to join the Thames at Bow Creek in East London. The Lea has formed the boundary between Saxon's and Danes, been home to medieval mills, London's furniture industry and flows through the Olympic Park. This series of walks will look at the history of the River Lea, tracing its course on its way to the Thames.
🚶♂️WHAT TO EXPECT
Starting the journey at Leagrave Station, to the North of Luton, this first walk starts at the source of the River Lea, and visits Waulud's Bank - the remains of a prehistoric settlement built at the same time as Stonehenge. Walking through water meadows and parkland that cuts through Luton's suburbs, there is a break at an old thatched pub that was once a moated farmhouse. With herons, egrets and possibly the odd kingfisher the walk follows the Lea to Wardown Park, a Victorian mansion that now forms Luton Museum. From there it is a short walk to Luton station.

The walk is about 5 miles in total, mostly level ground but on occasion there are muddy paths so boots are recommended.

The trail is under 1km long and follows a circular route that both starts and ends at the Watersports Centre. Along the way, children will get to answer questions and be treated to a selection of Easter and Spring themed jokes that are sure to bring a smile. It’s a great way for families to stretch their legs and enjoy a fun activity together.

There is good access at Willen Lake, with surfaced paths and dedicated parking spaces at both the North and South car parks. A disabled toilet can be found in the Splash ‘n’ Play complex. A changing places toilets is also be available in our Watersports Centre.

🌳 Learn about the ancient origins of the park all the way up to the modern era. On your walk, discover hidden gems such as the Veteran Lime Tree, Doric Seat and Ha-ha, which survive from the 18th century English Landscape Garden design of the park and have been recently revealed, revived and restored as part of our National Lottery Heritage Fund project.

👀 A FREE A- MAZ-ING HIDDEN GEM IN BEDFORDSHIRE at Roxton Garden Centre! A maze that is free to go too, kids & adults will love it...... if you can find it that is!
🤔SO WHERE IS IT?
This FREE MAZE is located at the wonderful Roxton Garden Centre in Bedfordshire. When you enter the car park you will not see any signposts for it. As you go in the car park facing the garden centre turn right, then turn left as if you are heading for a dead end, it may seem like you are heading for the delivery entrance but there you will see trees on your right and a sign in front of you 'Roxton Maze'.
The maze is located next to the garden centre in a spacious field with a few benches to sit on. At the moment it is being trimmed back due to some hanging branches, we had to duck and dive a few times but it added to all the fun we had.
♿️ IS THE MAZE SUITABLE FOR PUSHCHAIRS OR WHEELCHAIRS?
I would say it is NOT suitable as there are branches, some on the floor and hanging low, some spaces may not be big enough to venture through and also the surface may not be suitable in my personal opinion. It can get muddy too.

The Maze is open the same time when the Garden Centre is open. The details are below.
Please beware they may close the maze at anytime due to maintenance, so it maybe a good idea to contact them before planning your trip to avoid disappointment.

The garden centre is wheelchair friendly and dog friendly. You can buy things from plants, to clothes, to toys. Definitely worth a look!
☕️ THE CAFE
The cafe has hot and cold food and drink options at reasonable prices. There is a kids menu and an indoor & outdoor space with unmbrellas to sit in the sun and relax amongst the outdoor flower section of the Garden Centre. Dogs are allowed but they are not allowed in the main restaurant area. Just ask staff if you are not sure, they will be happy to help. They do a great carvery on a Sunday, you may need to book for this as it can get quite busy serving between 11:30 - 3:30pm.

The accessible entrance is via the car park. You will also find an accessible toilet just before the car park entrance.There is a step up to the shop but the cafe you can access via a lift.

We usually recommend the age ranges of 1-13, but an adult or sibling, cousin etc may assist young children if they would like to ride but are too small to ride alone. With good reason, you may assist your child! If they are too young to go alone, scared etc you may assist them.

We usually recommend the age ranges of 1-13, but an adult or sibling, cousin etc may assist young children if they would like to ride but are too small to ride alone. With good reason, you may assist your child! If they are too young to go alone, scared etc you may assist them.

🐑 Watergate Farm Lambing Season 2025 - Hockliffe

🐑 The farm will be open again during the peak Lambing Season during the Easter period.
Visitors can hold the lambs and see a modern sheep farm at work. With over 2000 sheep to give birth, it is a great chance to see lambs being born, taking their first few steps and suckling their mothers for the first time.

There is something for everyone, from pony & tractor rides to wool spinning, painting, bouncy castle, lamb cuddles, face painting or just watching the ewes and lambs. Wellies might have to be worn as it can get quite muddy.
