Vanbrugh arrived at Stowe in 1719, working alongside garden designer Charles Bridgeman and commissioned by Lord Cobham, who had just begun shaping the estate after years abroad.
His role was to bring architectural drama to the landscape and help unify the existing house - and although many of his original structures were later altered or replaced, his flair helped begin Stowe’s transformation into one of Britain’s finest 18th-century estates.

Stowe House (not National Trust) will also be offering visitors a special £3 admission (usually £9.50 for adults / £7.50 for National Trust members) along with a selection of events including crafts, workshops and storytelling. To find out more, visit stowehouse.org.

There is an 800m walk from the car park to the garden entrance, with a free access shuttle operating daily from the café to the garden entrance. Our Aqua Park is suitable for all ages 6yrs+ and over 1.1m tall. The ultimate outdoor watersports experience for families & groups - climb, leap, bounce & splash your way around both inflatable courses packed with fun obstacles. Explore 2 giant courses during your session (rotating after 30-mins) - twice the fun for the same price! How long will you stay dry?
🧦 Grip socks (or soft-sole water shoes): Optional, but recommended for extra comfort and grip. Socks are available to buy on the day. Wetsuits are also optional, but recommended & can hired on the day or pre-booked.
🏊♂️ Participants must be able to swim at least 50 metres while wearing a buoyancy aid and be comfortable falling into open water.

If you’re running late, we’ll do our best to get you onto your booked session, but this may require re-scheduling to the next available session or day.

All bookings are non-refundable. However, if you notify us more than 7 working days prior to your scheduled session, we’ll be happy to discuss rescheduling your booking or issuing a credit for future use.
In the event of extreme weather conditions - such as lightning, high winds or flooding - Box End Park may need to cancel sessions for safety reasons. Should this occur, we will offer the option to reschedule your booking or provide a credit.

🌸 Shefford Maze itself measures 30 metres square, and 2 metres high, with a 6 metre square centre. It was designed and planted in the summer of 1983 by the owner, John Brindle. Check before you leave on the Facebook page incase of any last minute closures.

The maze itself isn't suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs as it can be quite narrow inparts and has uneven ground.
