🏛 Moot Hall Museum - Elstow

🏛 Step into the world of John Bunyan when you visit the delightful village of Elstow, Bedfordshire.

🗓 OPENING TIMES

🏛 MOOT HALL
Wander onto the village green and discover Moot Hall - a registered Ancient Monument. This delightful 15th century timber-framed building is unique, being the only known combined manor courthouse & market hall to have been built in Britain by a nunnery.

As well as Bunyan-related items, Moot Hall houses a collection of 17th century furniture and various small exhibitions, including beautiful Bedfordshire lace-making. (Which you can purchase here.) Moot Hall is run by a small team of volunteers, all of whom are knowledgeable about its history, so don't hesitate to ask them questions.

💷 ADMISSION
There is no admission fee for individuals and families. Instead, we invite you to leave a donation, at the end of your visit, for whatever amount you feel your visit was worth.

🤔 WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?
​Bring the family, perhaps have a picnic on the green. Follow that with a stroll around the ancient timber-framed buildings on Elstow's High Street and the Abbey church and ruins of the former Benedictine nunnery. Then round off your visit with a cuppa at the delightful Elstow Tea Garden or at Elstow Post Office's Cottage Tea Room or the Red Lion Pub (A Sizzling pub).

♿️ DISABLED ACCESS
There is one parking space at Moot Hall exclusively reserved for Blue Badge Holders.
Access to the upper floor of Moot Hall is via a flight of fairly steep stairs but there is a chair-lift. There are some raised beams in the downstairs floor which you will need to be able to step over and one bay may not be accessible to wider wheelchairs. Sorry, but Moot is, after all, an authentic medieval building!

🅿️ CAR PARKING
There is a small car park adjacent to Moot Hall - only for people visiting the museum. - and this may be accessed from Church End.  There are also three spaces in a small lay-by on Church End, opposite Moot Hall. Also at the Abbey Church, which is at the western end of Church End, and a large car park at The Red Lion Pub.

⛪️ De Grey Mausoleum Open Day - Flitton, Free entry


Time: 14:00 - 16:00

⛪️ The De Grey Mausoleum is attached to the mid-15th-century parish church of St John at Flitton, Bedfordshire. It was first built in the early 17th century, before being expanded in 1704.The mausoleum contains a remarkable collection of funerary monuments spanning three centuries.

📍WHERE WILL I FIND THE MAUSOLEUM & OTHER INFO?
The mausoleum is attached to Flitton Church, St John the Baptist, Bedfordshire and is accessed via its nave. The Mausoleum is not dog friendly and there maybe some uneven surfaces not suitable for wheelchairs.

🎧 Audio tour: There is an audio tour for the mausoleum and we advise that it is downloaded prior to your visit as the mobile network signal strength in the mausoleum and the church is rather variable - click here for information about the tour and to download it.

🅿️ Parking: There is no car park at the church but there is limited on-street parking available on surrounding streets.

ℹ️ Facilities: There are no facilities at the church but there is a pub in the village and more options in either Flitwick or Ampthill.

🍻 You will find The White Hart on the corner of Brook Lane serving great food from 12pm - 3pm on Sunday's. The pub is also dog friendly.

🚂 The Summerfield Line will take you between Haynes End Station and Hammer Hill Station.

TIMES
Trains depart Haynes End between 10:30 and 15:30 (approx.), we close at 16:00.
Steam engines will also be in action as often as we are able.

ℹ️ ABOUT
At Hammer Hill you will have the option of taking a ride on two more of our railways - The Springfield Line from platform 2 and The Winterfield Line from platform 3 - tickets for both are sold at Hammer Hill. 

🥪 PICNIC AREA
The picnic area at Hammer Hill will also be open for you to use, from where you will be able to watch the Garden Line in operation.

☕️ REFRESHMENTS
At Haynes End the Station Buffet will be open for refreshments and picnic tables are available for your use on the grass outside.

We do try to run even when the weather is not at its best, but will have to cease operations should conditions dictate.

The Olde Watermill Shopping Village is set in and around an historic Watermill.
There has been a Watermill on the site since 1086 as the Watermill is mentioned in the Domesday book and it is one of the oldest overshot Watermills in the country.
Over the last few years, it has been lovingly restored and is now home to over 20 unique and individual shops as well as the Mill House Restaurant, Tea Room & Cafe, an antique centre, Miller’s Shopping Arcade and a soft play area for the children.

Fishing is more than just a hobby. It helps men step away from their busy lives and relax. The slow, steady process of fishing—casting a line, waiting, and focusing on the water—can be very calming. It helps lower stress and gives men time to clear their minds.
Spending time outdoors is also important for mental health. Being in nature can improve mood, reduce anxiety, and boost overall well-being. Fishing provides a chance to breathe fresh air, enjoy quiet moments, and feel a sense of achievement.

WHAT'S INCLUDED?
A fully qualified facilitator and level 2 angling coach with over 30 years of angling experience. They will also provide fishing tackle, bait, etc. Please note that a rod licence to fish will be provided.

The Farmers' Market includes fresh fruit, vegetables, meats fish, artisan bakery, homemade pies, preserves, gifts, crafts, beer, wine, liquors, fine cheeses, flowers, and street food.

The Market is situated in the heart of picturesque Harpenden on the Hugh Street within its bustling Town Centre, restaurant, a Sainsbury's and charity shops. Locals and visitors alike come to enjoy delicious, seasonal produce, locally grown and reared by experts, passionate in their field.
