⚙️ The Mill, Shop and Tea Room are open to the public only on the dates below. Flour and oats are milled on open days, water levels permitting. Tea Room last orders 4.30pm.
ℹ️ THE MILL
There are three floors to view. We recommend the minimum time would be 15 minutes for each floor. There is a lift in the mill which allows full access to all three floors, there is also a toilet, for disabled visitors.
🌳 THE NATURE RESERVE
The Nature Reserve is open all year round, except 10th-11th May and 4th-5th October 2025. A circular walk takes around 45 minutes.
🐶 ABOUT DOGS
With the exception of guide dogs, we do not allow dogs in the mill. We welcome well behaved dogs in the Nature Reserve and ask that they be kept on leads at all times – many animals and birds breed or feed on the reserve, at or near ground level at all seasons of the year.

Our SENDsational mornings offer children with neurodiverse conditions, including autism and other sensory processing difficulties, the chance to take part in activities and enjoy our galleries with their families and siblings away from the hustle and bustle of the general public.
▪️AGE INFORMATION
This event is best for children aged five to 15 and siblings are welcome.
👍 What can you expect from the experience?
- ✨️ Visitors have access to a few activities including specimen handling, crafting and a gallery trail.
- ✨️ All activities are supported by experienced, autism-aware facilitators.
- ✨️ A sensory space will be available for those children needing a quieter and calmer space.
- ✨️ All of the galleries, outdoor spaces and the shop will be accessible throughout the event.
- ✨️ Each event has a different theme. In May it's rainforests, in August it's Oceans and the theme for November is Autumn.

Walk-ups are not possible - you must have a ticket. Adult tickets are limited to three per group.

We have had some great feedback from doing this the last two years, as most places seem to be putting their prices up, so we thought we'd do it again this summer.

Come and enjoy steam train rides, watch the model trains, ride the miniature railway, visit our huge Railway Museum and stunning Visitor Centre, plus you can see inside the Travelling Post Office carriages. There are 25 acres to explore! We also have a lovely café, gift shop and secondhand book shop. There's so much to see and do for a First Class day out with the kids this summer!
