๐Ÿ“– SOME INTERESTING HISTORY
The Panacea Society was originally called โ€˜The Community of the Holy Ghostโ€™, and was made up mostly of women. Its leader was Mabel Barltrop โ€“ the widow of an English clergyman, and mother of four childrenโ€“ whose followers called her โ€˜Octaviaโ€™.

During the 1920s, followers of the Panacea Society moved to Bedford to live near Octavia. Eventually, the community was able to combine the gardens of several properties to form โ€˜the campusโ€™ โ€“ a private space between the community houses, with a chapel at its centre.

From this headquarters, the Society operated a religious organisation which reached across the world. Over two thousand people became members of the Panacea Society, in Europe, North America and many parts of the British Empire and Commonwealth.

From its beginning, the Panacea Society expected the end of the world. Society members were convinced that God would soon act to bring about a new age โ€“ a period of peace and happiness called โ€˜the Millenniumโ€™.

The Panacea Society was part of a wider religious movement of groups concerned with prophecy. The Panaceans believed that God was speaking to them through Octavia, but her followers did not believe she was the only modern prophet. Rather, they accepted a lineage of seven prophetic voices since the late 1700s โ€“ a tradition they called โ€˜the Visitationโ€™.

Bradwell Mill Opening Day - Free Entry

Bradwell Mill is a Grade II listed landmark and is open to the public on selected days throughout the year, when the mill can be seen in action.

It is a rare opportunity to better understand what life was like as a miller โ€“ complete with all the associated smells, noise and dust!

๐ŸŽถ ABOUT:
Finnish-born Joose Keskitalo is regarded as one of the most original contemporary singer-songwriters in Finland. A prolific songwriter who has published music in Finland since 2004, being involved in projects like the
psychedelic folk collective Paavoharju.

Joose Keskitalo experiments with forms and stories found in Francis Childโ€™s collection of ballads and Shakespeareโ€™s history plays, notions of Alchemy and other old traditions with a strange Outsider Folk feel to it.
Be prepared to hear stories about selling your soul to the devil, King Henry IV, the peasantโ€™s revolt and old Greek mythology.
The music ranges from traditional folk to Jethro Tullish blues rock.

Joose Keskitalo has published 15 albums, of which two are in English: New Songs for Old Motifs (2021) and Oh, Our Slow Designs (2023)

Joose Keskitalo (guitar, vocals, flute and violin)
is accompanied by
Ville Linna (banjo, weissenborn, home-made string instruments and backing vocals) and
Eero Tikkanen (Double Bass and backing vocals)
