I went to the Munchkin Play Barn with my grandaughter. There is a lovely seating area for adults and a cafe that serves sandwiches, snacks & drinks. The seating area allows you to be in direct contact with your children to each section.

There is a section with a ball pit and slide, soft play area, a sandpit area and another area with toys such as play food & kitchen etc.

🛍 WHAT ELSE DOES THE OLDE WATERMILL HAVE TO OFFER?
Not only is this play barn great for children but it is located in Barton Mill which is a beautiful setting set back in time with a treasure of shops ranging from gifts, toys, plants, Christmas decorations, a fishing shop, sweet shop, psychic read readings, children's little money rides plus lots of others.

😋 FOOD & DRINK
There is a lovely pond with fish to watch, such a tranquil spot! You can sit by the pond under a canopy so you won't get wet and also be served there by the cafe/restaurant where I purchased a Mediterranean and cheese pannini for £6.49, I then added chips for an extra £1.50 ....so yummy!

This beautiful little treasure in Bedfordshire is more than just a play barn, with lots of things to see, shop, eat & drink!

ℹ️ ABOUT THE PLAY
The action in this play all takes place in the Village Hall of Chortleby – where generally speaking nothing ever happens...until that is Agatha arrives to visit her sister-in-law. The ages are really flexible, it’s more about how the characters work together, so if you fancy a part do come down on 9th January and audition for it.

⭐️Main characters:
Agatha – A crime novelist, unassuming but very smart (F 30s – 60s). To bring it a bit up to date she’s also a podcaster. Think more Magpie / Moonflower murders than Miss Marple.

⭐️Twig - A Detective Inspector of extraordinary incompetence (M 30s – 60s). Think DI Derek Grim in the Thin Blue Line (90’s TV show) if you’re looking for inspiration

⭐️Alice – Agatha’s sister-in-law, pleasant, unpretentious. (F 30s – 60s) Generally quite a nice person whose main purpose in the play is to help Agatha.

⭐️Harry - The village hall caretaker, cynical, worldly wise, down to earth (M 30s – 60s). I’d quite like him to be a ‘character’, perhaps with some kind of regional accent to differentiate him from PC Lockett who’s his cousin and played by the same actor

⭐️PC Lockett – the village bobby, cousin to Harry (played by the same actor) (M 30s – 60s)

⭐️Olivia – an upper crust, landed gentry type with less land than she’d like (M / F 30s – 60s). Generally carries a shotgun and very obviously the same actor that plays her ‘twin’ brother Oliver

⭐️Oliver – Olivia’s brother, who except for the hair looks the same (played by the same actor) (M / F 30s – 60s) Smaller

⭐️Roles Eleanor – chair of the hall committee, mother superior type (F 30s – 60s)

⭐️Maisie – a cleaner, pleasant but not afraid to call a spade a spade (F 30s – 60s)

⭐️Toby – the vicar, generally genial and a little naïve, but can be forceful (M 30s – 60s)

⭐️Isabella – the pub landlady, mumsy type with definite pretensions (F 30s – 60s)

⭐️Mandy – a model recruited for the life drawing class (F 20 – 45 ish)

NOTES
PC Lockett and Harry are played by the same person – their characters need to be sufficiently different from each other to not confuse the audience. I don’t mind how you make them different so feel free to use your imagination. Olivia and Oliver need to be obviously the same person – it’s a kind of visual joke.

Tree Tots offers a range of seasonal activities designed just for under-5s. You’ll get to join in all kinds of fun things that connect you and your little one with nature – from ‘cooking’ in mud kitchens, balancing on ropes and swinging in hammocks to playing with water, exploring the woods and collecting natural treasure.
