๐Ÿคฉ WHAT TO EXPECT
You can meet characters from pre-Roman times up to WW2 - Tudors, Vikings, Medieval Knights and WW1 characters, including Henry VIII, Queen Victoria and Boudicca.

The festival recreates a glimpse of daily life through a variety of historical scenarios, performances, talks, music and traditional craft demos.  Thereโ€™s lots on offer for kids including Knight School, themed art and craft activities, and archery.  Leading up to the Festival, the Stockwood Discovery Centre also offers free โ€œHistorical Nonsenseโ€ craft activities focusing on specific periods of history that are featured over the two days.

Come and experience Stockwood as it travels back in time!

๐Ÿ› MOOT HALL
Wander onto the village green and discover Moot Hall - a registered Ancient Monument. This delightful 15th century timber-framed building is unique, being the only known combined manor courthouse & market hall to have been built in Britain by a nunnery.

As well as Bunyan-related items, Moot Hall houses a collection of 17th century furniture and various small exhibitions, including beautiful Bedfordshire lace-making. (Which you can purchase here.) Moot Hall is run by a small team of volunteers, all of whom are knowledgeable about its history, so don't hesitate to ask them questions.

There is no admission fee for individuals and families. Instead, we invite you to leave a donation, at the end of your visit, for whatever amount you feel your visit was worth.

๐Ÿค” WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?
โ€‹Bring the family, perhaps have a picnic on the green. Follow that with a stroll around the ancient timber-framed buildings on Elstow's High Street and the Abbey church and ruins of the former Benedictine nunnery. Then round off your visit with a cuppa at the delightful Elstow Tea Garden or at Elstow Post Office's Cottage Tea Room or the Red Lion Pub (A Sizzling pub).

โ™ฟ๏ธ DISABLED ACCESS
There is one parking space at Moot Hall exclusively reserved for Blue Badge Holders.
Access to the upper floor of Moot Hall is via a flight of fairly steep stairs but there is a chair-lift. There are some raised beams in the downstairs floor which you will need to be able to step over and one bay may not be accessible to wider wheelchairs. Sorry, but Moot is, after all, an authentic medieval building!

๐Ÿ…ฟ๏ธ CAR PARKING
โ€‹
There is a small car park adjacent to Moot Hall - only for people visiting the museum. - and this may be accessed from Church End.  There are also three spaces in a small lay-by on Church End, opposite Moot Hall. Also at the Abbey Church, which is at the western end of Church End, and a large car park at The Red Lion Pub.

๐ŸŒณ Stotfold Watermill & Nature Reserve 2025


Time: 12:30 - 17:00

โš™๏ธ The Mill, Shop and Tea Room are open to the public only on the dates below. Flour and oats are milled on open days, water levels permitting. Tea Room last orders 4.30pm.

โ„น๏ธ THE MILL
There are three floors to view. We recommend the minimum time would be 15 minutes for each floor. There is a lift in the mill which allows full access to all three floors, there is also a toilet, for disabled visitors.

๐ŸŒณ THE NATURE RESERVE
The Nature Reserve is open all year round, except 10th-11th May and 4th-5th October 2025. A circular walk takes around 45 minutes.

๐Ÿถ ABOUT DOGS
With the exception of guide dogs, we do not allow dogs in the mill. We welcome well behaved dogs in the Nature Reserve and ask that they be kept on leads at all times โ€“ many animals and birds breed or feed on the reserve, at or near ground level at all seasons of the year.

Now, thirteen years later, and ably assisted by SAMUEL EDWARDS, formerly Detective Constable Edwards of H Division, and Samuel Edwardโ€™s โ€œclose friendโ€ Miss ELSIE FORDHAM, rising star of the music hall stage, Lestrange rehearses again for your delectation and delight the ghoulish events in Victorian Whitechapel which have been a source of universal fascination since the 1880โ€™s.

Bradwell Mill Opening Day - Free Entry

Bradwell Mill is a Grade II listed landmark and is open to the public on selected days throughout the year, when the mill can be seen in action.

It is a rare opportunity to better understand what life was like as a miller โ€“ complete with all the associated smells, noise and dust!

โญ๏ธ Only a limited number of people can access the upstairs at a time โ€“ so you may have to wait.

โญ๏ธ Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

โญ๏ธ There are no toilet facilities available.

Admission is free but donations towards the upkeep are very much welcome.

๐Ÿ› MOOT HALL
Wander onto the village green and discover Moot Hall - a registered Ancient Monument. This delightful 15th century timber-framed building is unique, being the only known combined manor courthouse & market hall to have been built in Britain by a nunnery.

As well as Bunyan-related items, Moot Hall houses a collection of 17th century furniture and various small exhibitions, including beautiful Bedfordshire lace-making. (Which you can purchase here.) Moot Hall is run by a small team of volunteers, all of whom are knowledgeable about its history, so don't hesitate to ask them questions.

There is no admission fee for individuals and families. Instead, we invite you to leave a donation, at the end of your visit, for whatever amount you feel your visit was worth.

๐Ÿค” WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?
โ€‹Bring the family, perhaps have a picnic on the green. Follow that with a stroll around the ancient timber-framed buildings on Elstow's High Street and the Abbey church and ruins of the former Benedictine nunnery. Then round off your visit with a cuppa at the delightful Elstow Tea Garden or at Elstow Post Office's Cottage Tea Room or the Red Lion Pub (A Sizzling pub).

โ™ฟ๏ธ DISABLED ACCESS
There is one parking space at Moot Hall exclusively reserved for Blue Badge Holders.
Access to the upper floor of Moot Hall is via a flight of fairly steep stairs but there is a chair-lift. There are some raised beams in the downstairs floor which you will need to be able to step over and one bay may not be accessible to wider wheelchairs. Sorry, but Moot is, after all, an authentic medieval building!

There is a small car park adjacent to Moot Hall - only for people visiting the museum. - and this may be accessed from Church End.  There are also three spaces in a small lay-by on Church End, opposite Moot Hall. Also at the Abbey Church, which is at the western end of Church End, and a large car park at The Red Lion Pub.

โš™๏ธ The Mill, Shop and Tea Room are open to the public only on the dates below. Flour and oats are milled on open days, water levels permitting. Tea Room last orders 4.30pm.

โ„น๏ธ THE MILL
There are three floors to view. We recommend the minimum time would be 15 minutes for each floor. There is a lift in the mill which allows full access to all three floors, there is also a toilet, for disabled visitors.

๐ŸŒณ THE NATURE RESERVE
The Nature Reserve is open all year round, except 10th-11th May and 4th-5th October 2025. A circular walk takes around 45 minutes.

๐Ÿถ ABOUT DOGS
With the exception of guide dogs, we do not allow dogs in the mill. We welcome well behaved dogs in the Nature Reserve and ask that they be kept on leads at all times โ€“ many animals and birds breed or feed on the reserve, at or near ground level at all seasons of the year.

Bradwell Mill Opening Day - Free Entry

Bradwell Mill is a Grade II listed landmark and is open to the public on selected days throughout the year, when the mill can be seen in action.

It is a rare opportunity to better understand what life was like as a miller โ€“ complete with all the associated smells, noise and dust!

The mill is a working machine not just a building. Care should be taken when moving around the premises as some surfaces are greasy and some have a risk of splinters.

โญ๏ธ There are low beams and trip hazards along with steep, narrow stairs.

โญ๏ธ Only a limited number of people can access the upstairs at a time โ€“ so you may have to wait.

โญ๏ธ Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

โญ๏ธ There are no toilet facilities available.

Admission is free but donations towards the upkeep are very much welcome.
